...I'm not sure what's going on...it may be all the trouble were having finding Mini the perfect bone marrow donor and my need to be distracted or go crazy...then again, it may just be the holidays...but, I have been so inspired to create something new everyday...one day I'm sewing, the next, cooking, the next painting...I'm on a roll and I just want to document it here to see if there's a pattern to my creativity...because I know that I can go months without creating a thing...So let's see if this is seasonal....
where the magic happens...
I'll show you what I did with these later...they turned out so well, Mini thought I bought them from HomeGoods...
In the photos...my mom, my dad and my great-grandfather
...remember the pedestals I found trashed...and then painted white? ...I was playing around and turned them into a table...I put my old IKEA antonius table top on top of the pedestal and viola, a beautiful new buffet table...Now, I won't be using it this year...no holiday cooking for me...but I did have fun setting the scene...
A nice way to remember those who have passed on is to add a few small photos of them to the buffet table...as well as art...it just adds a little whimsy and will get your guest talking.
Just in case you are having a big beautiful dinner...here are the rules for setting your table...
The Holiday Market in Union Square is officially open...I ran threw very quickly yesterday...the guy in the white short sleeve shirt below (yeah, it was a beautiful 65 degrees in NYC yesterday and looks like more of the same today) has a booth making crepe Suzettes...I didn't try it...but, he did inspire my breakfast this morning...nutella, bananas and green tea...YUM! Mini woke up late with just 15 minutes to get dressed and get on the school bus...so no yumminess for her...from the looks of our nutella jar, Miss Mini has been sneaking this stuff by the spoonful...smile.
...more photos later.
My new faux sheepskin rug...
...looks like I'm not the only one who likes to look at them...

...sometimes a mom just needs to get dinner on the table so that she can move on to the other 100 things she has to do before going to bed...yesterday was one of those days...So I made one of Mini and my mom's favorite...Oodles of Noodles...I just macked it up a little...It was so good...Mini started telling stories about her Nana...My Mom would make them for Mini when she slept over...sigh.
Here's what I did...
1. Boil 2 cups of water
2. Add bagged vegetables, spinach, carrots, mushrooms, scallions, etc.
3. Let boil 3 minutes
4. Add 1/2 cup of frozen shrimp
5. Add noodles and flavor packet
6. Let boil another 3 or 4 minutes until noodles are soft
7. Drizzle in a little sesame oil...(I love this stuff...I get it from Trader Joe's)
Spoon into your bowl garnish with a few scallions and viola...a hot filling meal in minutes.
O.k...this is another easy D.I.Y. that I found on the internet (can't remember where, if you do, please let me know)...Very easy, just purchase a few strands of fake leaves and a round styrofoam ring at the dollar store...separate the leaves from the branch...pin the leaves down and spray paint them your favorite color...next, hot glue the leaves to the styrofoam...attach a coordinated ribbon and viola! I think I'll try it this weekend...
It's Westwood College, they offer and online Interior Design program...check it out.
