Luv it! This is my inspiration for mini-me's next bedroom makeover. Mini-me goes to camp for a week each summer...usually around her birthday...for the past couple of years I have redecorated her room for her birthday with the big reveal when she gets home from camp...(I know, we watch too much HGTV)...Well, mini-me has informed me that she wants this to continue for the rest of her life...Even when she moves out...I must come to her home and re-do her bedroom for her birthday...I luv it!
You gotta luv Brooklyn...there are so many diverse, independant stores in Fort Greene...but, alot of people are being pushed out by rising rents...It's putting some artist on the street to sell there wares...I purchased this card from an artist on the street. I love the drawing of the woman and the sentiment just spoke to me, "today I begin my life anew"...It is my theme for each and everyday...I purchased the handmade, country frame from a little boutique...I like the raw, recycled look of it...and the colors are calming...
Here's a very east DIY project...
Purchase two standard white pillow cases...Get iron-on letters from a craft store like Micheal's and iron the words YES and NO onto the cases...or how about HIS and HERS or HERS and HERS for your single girlfriends...too cute.
I think it would make a great gift for a wedding shower or house warming...

BEFORE...
I can't have free time on my hands...when I do , this is what happens to my home...
After...
This fireplace mantel was in my bedroom...I move it from room to room every now and then...and like I said, I was bored yesterday and it made it's move into the living room. I like it...it actually gave the room more of an eclectic feel...as opposed to the picture on the top where my livingroom looks a little stuffy and staged...
Last Night...
Oh, it was nice...I light the candles put mini-me to bed and we just chilled...
I purchased this mantel for $50.00 bucks in my neighborhood junk shop...I was driving past, saw it outside, stopped the car and screamed out the window, "how much"?. The old man said, "Well, I'm leaving soon, give me $50.00"...I couldn't get it out of my wallet fast enough...He tied it on top of the car...I drove it to my mom's house..(it was closer than mine and I needed help to get it into my apartment building) my brother took on look at it and started humming the theme song from Sandford and Son...UGH! You gotta have vision...I love it...I'm glad it's back in the livingroom . It was getting no play in the bedroom...

This song got me through some tough times...I better keep it on the blog just in case I need it again...Enjoy.
I hope you had a good Memorial Day Weekend...I spent the weekend with family...bar-b-que's and celebrating the completion of a Masters Degree Program...Yeah! The girls at the party could not get enough of this song, they played it over and over while drinking martinis and doing the electric slide and yes, there was a Soul Train Line...and now I can't get the song out of my head...If you can get by the techo beat and Sean Puffy Combs budding in on the end...the lyrics are actually cool...Don't listen too many times or you won't be able to get it out of your head...Dang you Puffy...
I have been talking about painting my bedroom white for months now. I found this image online and it mirrors my bedroom....I already have the chocolate wall...I wanted to change it...it's been chocolate since I moved in...but, now I think I'll keep it and just paint the rest of the room white...right now it's green...I have a window in the same position as this room and I'm thinking about making drapes and placing them wall to wall....giving the illusion of a bigger window...I just got a little baby, tini-tiny flat screen for my room too and I have no dresser...I have two closets...no dresser needed...I like it...it's do-able...Not as funky as I'd like it to be, but it's a start...

The store is located in East Hampton, a 1 hour and 54 minute drive...Hum, just may be worth the gas...

I studied fashion design at F.I.T. (and yes, a fashion design class is exactly like being on Project Runway) this dress turned out to be a perfect example of what one of my professors (not Tim Gunn) would tell the students..."Don't try to put all your fabulous ideas into every project." I loved this fabric and thought it would make a wonderful simple, long summer tunic type dress...then I got carried away with the details and now I'm not sure what it looks like...I'm not happy with it and I miss my pretty fabric...I tried to jazz it up in the bottom photo with the beads...but, it's not working for me....Just sharing...
Mini-me has been waiting for me to make her something...she decided it should be a messenger bag...
I used the denim I had laying around...and scraps from old projects for the decorative trim...
She has a lot of gadgets...and may be getting a laptop to help her with reading...So, I decided to put plenty of deep pockets inside the bag..
This is how it turned out. Pretty cute, huh? Well, after much consideration I decided it was not girly enough for my girl...So I guggied (is that a word?) it up...
I added these cute little fabric flowers and buttons...
Mini-me loved it! She was so excited...all her gadgets fit perfectly...totally organized...Not an easy feet for an 11 year old...

Two weeks ago I spent the morning in at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens...I bought annuals and perinials for my flower boxes on the terrace...Mini-me was excited to help out...the weather was perfect...Now, almost everyday since planting the weather has been rainy and cold...down to 42 degrees on some nights...UGH! I'm looking forward to this weekend...finally temperatures in the 70's...and it's Fleet Week here in NYC...that's always an exciting, fun time...
Phyllis over at www.fortyisthenew20.blogspot.com asked for inspirational office ideas...If you need specific inspirational photos...just let me know...
When you said you do most of your work at the kitchen table...I thought this would be a pretty easy transition to a dedicated space for creativity...A cute table and chair, just big enough for a lap top and flowers...and it doesn't take up much space...
Creating this space would take much more effort...built-ins, organization and a dedicated space.
I threw this one in for inspiration...maybe you have a basement space that is being under used...Just think what it could be...
If your a magazine nut like me...why not use them as legs for your desk...head over to Home Depot pick-up a hollow core door and sit it on top of your magazines...viola!
This image is cozy...a bright corner, simple desk and a basket for all those re-writes...

I love Ikea. But, I don't think it's a good idea to decorate your home with head to toe Ikea...A little Ikea, sprinkled here and there can go a long way to showing off who you are and how you live without breaking the bank... This home is a perfect example of that idea...
Wonderful design space...and I'm sure it didn't break the bank. It functions with style.
We all know how cheap the green chairs are in IKEA...but, when paired with other more interesting items, they look great.
I'm working on a kitchen right now (pictures will post later) but, this is a good example of a kitchen done well without all the drama and effort of a total redo...I love it.
